Weekend work in Belgium!

Tour Diary

In my head I had planned this as my week off … But after missing a few cuts and managing to get home nice and early, Laura sent me packing again and said keep playing and take all the chances you can!! (Either great support or she really does not like me!).

Seriously, she is so supportive of my career and without her I really couldn’t do it!!

So heading to Belgium for my 6th week on the bounce I still felt fresh, but after missing the last three cuts I was putting myself under some unwanted pressure!

I seem to keep having a big number on my scorecard first round and its gets you on the back foot from the start! It’s never easy then!!

And the first round in Belgium was no better! Starting on 10, I was one over after 16 and playing all right! Then car crash again…

Double, double on 17 and 18 to make the turn in plus 5 … What am I doing!!!!

A battling back nine of one under meant I again signed for a poor first round! (+4)

I never give in, I get frustrated like everyone on the course, but the white towel does not get chucked in … I would rather shoot 79 than 80, than not try and shoot 85 … My pride is too great!

So round 2 was another day of character building and if I was going to miss the cut I would sure try and only miss it by 1!

Again, I was one over at the turn but this time that was the front nine, something had to click!!

Thankfully I made birdie on 11, then holed from off the edge of the green on 13 to give myself a chance!

And after the two doubles in round one, it could not have been more different! A birdie, birdie finish – and after an hour of waiting I finally sneaked the cut mark!!

That in itself felt like a weight off my shoulders!!

Huge thanks must go to my brother Mike for coming to caddy for me this week, having a friendly face to chat with, share stories and keep me as positive as possible on the course was a huge factor in me making the cut!

The weekend was not too exciting, but I did have one really bad piece of luck worth mentioning since it stopped any momentum I had – I had actually played pretty solid for 71 & 73 which meant a +1 total and a tie for 50th.

Bad luck:

Down the 7th I missed the fairway over the right trap, the ‘ball spotter’ waved the white flag to say he had seen it from across the fairway … So off I went, no provisional ball played as he had seen it.

Once we got there the ball was nowhere to be seen; the spotter said he saw it bounce and after 5 minutes looking in the rough I walked out to return to the tee only to find it sat up nicely in the semi rough! He had us looking in the wrong spot, even though he had seen it!

But that was time out and back to the tee for me … Gutted!!!

Anyway, it’s back to weekend work and after a few hours’ drive down to France on Sunday evening I was ready for another week in St Omer!
