Jamega run…

Tour Diary

As mentioned in previous blogs… around the Challenge Tour events I will get to play this year I will be filling the gaps by playing on the Jamega Tour. They play their events most Mondays and Tuesdays each week, mainly in the South of England.

So playing the Jamega Tour will also still allow me to fly on a Tuesday night or a Wednesday morning if I get a late call for a CT event.

But as there are no CT events I can get into currently and with a great incentive on the Jamega Tour to qualify for the Mena Tour through their ‘Race to the Gulf’, I have my stall set out for the next few weeks.

And after playing 5 out of the first 6 events I’ve managed to get on a really nice run of form. T3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 2nd (p) and 1st at Mill Green to lead both the money OOM and the ‘Race to the Gulf’ OOM.

It was great last week to finally get that winning feeling back! Golf is a funny sport when it comes to winning – it does not happen much.  And that makes Tiger’s win percentage of something like 30 per cent of events he plays even more impressive, especially when he only plays the big events with the strongest fields of the year.

To have Steve (Tooby) back on the bag too was great, after coming so close in the previous four events maybe having Steve made all the difference – he sure gives it 100 per cent and I know everyone who has ever experienced his skills in action will agree how good he is!

Probably the biggest highlight, other than winning of course, was to play a Tournament and not make a bogey for 36 holes. The course was not what I would call a tough course, but the condition and the wind surely played its part, so to keep it bogey free was nice!!

That would be a great achievement if I could do it for another 36 holes this week, as I think that really is a key to tournament golf. Limit the errors and take the chances when you get them!

As I’ve said to so many people, it’s not how good your good shot is but how good your bad shot is…! Think about that one J

Jamega Tour – Essenden Rd1 – 23rd April

I felt to lose some commitment in my swing out there today and hit a few poor shots. But as I mentioned before, over the last few years my bad shot has certainly improved.

I’ve also learned to manage my game well and play safe at the right times – and having Steve on the bag certainly makes that easier.

The day’s highlights of the round have to be the 30ft and 50ft putts I holed, along with a cheeky chip in, as they don’t come along that often and they sure gave me a boost!

Rd 2 – 24th April

I really committed to my swing out there, made some great decisions and backed them up with some good shots!

In Steve’s own words “That’s the best I’ve seen you play and manage your game EVER”.

But it was just not to be, I shot 69 (-3) and finished 2nd behind Warren Bennett who carded a great 67 to beat me by one. So the run of Jamega form came to an end but in the best possible way!

But taking all the positives from that event, I’m already looking forward to the next one at Cumberwell Park!

Thanks as always for the kind messages, they really keep me motivated!!
